Latur School Principal Arrested Over Alleged Sexual Harassment of Minor Girls
A Latur school principal has been arrested under the POCSO Act over alleged sexual harassment of minor girls. An SIT is investigating claims of a 33-year pattern involving hundreds of victims as protests and parents' concerns grow.
Bashir Usman Shaikh, founder-principal of Adarsh International School in Latur, was arrested on October 7 following a complaint filed on October 4 under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The allegations have drawn wider attention after social media posts claimed a pattern of exploitation spanning 33 years and involving hundreds of victims at the school and institutions where Shaikh had previously worked. These claims have prompted protests and demands for the school to be shut down, alongside calls for the harshest punishment for the accused.
An investigation is underway to establish the extent of the alleged offences and determine whether other victims may have been affected. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by IPS officer Meghna IN is examining call records and videos as part of efforts to identify additional victims and gather evidence.
Police have urged witnesses and anyone with relevant information to come forward, assuring them of protection. The appeal comes amid concerns that more victims may emerge as investigators examine the allegations and their possible wider implications.
The case has also raised concerns among parents about the safety of their daughters at the school, particularly as examinations are underway. The allegations and ongoing investigation have intensified calls for accountability and action against those found responsible.
With the SIT continuing its probe and police seeking further information, the investigation is expected to focus on establishing the facts behind the allegations, identifying any additional victims and determining the full extent of the alleged exploitation.
